Judith Gardner Jones

Judith Gardner Jones

A critically acclaimed star of the Operatic and West End stage, Judith is a versatile performer and accomplished actress. Judith's opera roles include Musetta in La Boheme and Tosca for Opus 1's UK and Ireland tour. She was Musetta at the Longborough Opera Festival, Micaela in Carmen at Glasgow's West End Festival and Gretel in Hansel & Gretel at Buxton Festival. She toured as Adina in The Love Potion (Pegasus Opera), Pamina in Magic Flute (Opera Box) and Krista in Janacek's The Makropoulos Case (Scottish Opera). She sang Liu in Turandot at Leeds Civic Theatre, Frasquita in Carmen on Brownsea Island and Sandra in Cimarosa's The Two Barons of Rocca Azzurra at outdoor summer shows for Bampton Classical Opera. Other roles include Flora la Traviata, Lucy Lockit in Britten's Beggar's Opera, Mabel The Pirates of Penzance and Kate Pinkerton Madama Butterfly. Judith sang Ellen Orford in excerpts from Peter Grimes as part of the Write an Opera workshop series for The Royal Opera, Covent Garden. Judith featured in opera broadcasts for BBC Radio Scotland and toured extensively with Opera on a Shoestring's "Night at the Opera" shows. She played the diva Carlotta Giudicelli in Andrew Lloyd Webber's hit show The Phantom of the Opera at Her Majesty's Theatre, London.Judith's engagements for the 2006-7 season include the solo role in David Fanshawe's African Sanctus at Walthamstow Concert Hall, London and Donna Elvira for The Opera Project at The Tobacco Factory in Bristol.

Jonathan Tobutt

Jonathan was born in London and began to play the oboe at the age of 14. He studied with Janet Craxton and Richard Morgan at the Royal Academy of Music and continued his studies with Neil Black, principal oboist of the English Chamber and St Martin in the Field Orchestras.

He made his solo debut at the Purcell Room during the 1979 South Bank Festival. Jonathan lives with his family in West Yorkshire and is principal oboe of the Yorkshire Philharmonic Orchestra.

Jeremy Russell

Jeremy Russell is Yorkshire born and lives in Leeds. After leaving University he spent six years at the Royal College of Music studying Advanced Performance under John Barstow. He won major piano prizes during the period, including a British Council Scholarship to study at the Chopin Institute in Warsaw. He was also one of the first recipients of an award from the Lord Boyle Trust. Since leaving college Jeremy has made a career playing recitals and accompanying both in the UK and abroad. He has broadcast on both radio and television and is on the teaching faculty of the Royal College of Music. He is conductor of the Yorkshire Philharmonic Orchestra.

Mark Ostyn

Mark studied at the Royal College and Trinity College of Music, graduating with a teaching degree and diplomas on violin. Orchestral work followed with the BBC Philharmonic, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Bournemouth Symphony & Opera North along with solo dates in UK and overseas, in recital and concerto, and quartet tours for the Arts Council. Mark's abilities as a Musical Director led to his appointment as conductor with the West End Show, "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" and then as Director of the Scarborough Spa Orchestra. A move to Malaysia followed, when Mark was invited to conduct the Penang State Symphony Orchestra and Choir, a post he held for 9 years, being awarded in the honours list in Malaysia for services to music.

Recordings and musical arrangements include work for the tenor, Jose Carreras. Work in education includes Musician in Residence posts in Lincoln and Humberside involving work with children of all abilities from autistic children to young offenders. Mark now combines a private teaching practice with conducting a weekly Bradford based orchestra for young musicians and is the director of the Festival of Contemporary Music in Bradford.

Mark lives with his family in Bingley. A consumate performer and entertainer; Mark is in great demand as a soloist for weddings and corporate functions.

Sue Bourne

Sue is on the staff at the Leeds College of Music. She plays regularly in all the major theatres, with the National Festival Orchestra, the Yorkshire Philharmonic Orchestra, in recitals, special events such as the Bradford Festival of Remembrance, a Cehlid Band and, once on a fine day, J S Bach halfway up a mountain in the Lake District. She sings with the Aire Valley Singers.

As a Watercolour artist Sue is self taught, and her Moors Landscapes totally reflect her love of walking to wild places with nothing but sheep and weather!

Dan Gibson

Dan was born in Stockport and began to play the clarinet at the age of 10. He has studied with various teachers including Paul Harvey and Colin Honour, principal clarinet with English Northern Philharmonia. He began his professional career with the Grenadier Guards Band, taking part in numerous recordings, broadcasts and all ceremonial occasions. He has since worked regularly as a freelance clarinettist throughout the North of England, also playing in Ireland, Cyprus, America, and throughout the continent. He has performed various solo recitals including many of the major works by composers such as Schubert, Weber, Rossini, Brahms, Mozart and Poulenc, and also is a member of the Alan Cuckston Trio.

Dan lives with his family near Leeds. He continues to work as a freelance player and is currently in the process of forming a group of players specialising in the performance of Brazilian music.

Lynsey Clark

Lynsey began to study the bassoon at the age of 15. She read music at Nottingham University and continued her studies at the "Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama" gaining a Masters degree. She has studied with Keith Rubach and Paul Boyes and performed in masterclasses with John Orford, Martin Gatt and Graham Salvage. Lynsey worked as a freelance bassoonist for several years, performing with Opera North, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, and the Welsh Chamber Orchestra. Until recently she worked as a Lecturer at the Leeds College of Music and is currently Head of Music at Moorfield School for Girlsin Ilkley. Lynsey plays with the "Sinfonia of Leeds". She lives with her husband in Gomersal, Bradford.
